I love eating and I love cooking. But several years ago I was thrown for a loop when my Naturopath advised me to alter my diet considerably. I always thought I ate healthy but suddenly I was not allowed gluten, dairy, sugar, anything fermented, tropical fruits, the list went on and on. I was to stick to this diet for four months and at the end take an inventory and see what foods I could begin to bring back into my diet but after 4 months of super clean eating, the health benefits were glaringly obvious so I decided to stick with it. Over time I became less strict, but I am still pretty careful about what I eat which means almost every favourite recipe I had, had to be recreated. So the biggies for me to avoid are gluten, dairy and sugar. I will be the first to admit that I am not too fanatical about it. I will sneak in some cheese here and there and while I haven’t bought white refined sugar in a long time, I do keep a supply of honey and maple syrup on hand. But gluten is out for sure. Don’t need it, don’t want it. After about six months watching me eat and seeing my health improve, my hubby announced that we would also like to try going gluten free. “Ha” I told him, “you’ve been gluten free for six months and didn’t know it!”
I am always asked for recipes so this blog is an attempt to post some of my favourites, offer suggestions that I’ve have learned along the gluten free way and hopefully inspire you and encourage you to get mucking about in your own kitchen.
